  • "Bought one. Then went back a week later and got five more. One in each of the kids' backpacks, two in the cars, rest at home. Honestly hoping they just sit there forever. But if the tap ever goes bad, nobody in my family is drinking bad water. Worth it just to stop thinking about it." - James Caldwell ★★★★★

Why RIVR-1?

RIVR-1 is a compact emergency water filtration unit designed for blackouts, storms, travel, camping, and unexpected water shortages. It helps turn water from streams, lakes, rivers, and other freshwater sources into a safer drinking option when clean tap water is not available.

How to use?

How to Use the RIVR-1

Using it takes seconds, with nothing to assemble and nothing to power.

Find your water. Any freshwater source works, a stream, lake, pond, puddle, or collected rainwater. Skip saltwater and anything with chemical runoff.

Remove both caps. Take off the cover on each end of the unit so water can flow through.

Drink directly. Place the bottom end into the water, put your mouth on the top, and sip. Your suction pulls water through the filter and clean water comes out instantly. No waiting, no pumping.

Drink other ways if you prefer. Screw it onto a standard water bottle, or attach the included squeeze pouch and let it push filtered water out hands-free.

Backflush to keep it flowing. When the flow slows down, fill the included syringe with clean water and flush it backward through the unit a few times. This clears trapped debris and restores it to like-new.

Dry before storing. After use, shake out the excess water and let it air dry fully before packing it away, so it stays clean for next time.

That's it. No batteries, no charging, no replacement parts. Just clean water whenever you need it.

No Shelf Life. No Expiration Date. Ever.

Most emergency supplies have an expiration date. The RIVR-1 doesn't. Store it in a bag, a car, a drawer, for 10 or 20 years, and it works exactly the same the day you finally reach for it. One unit filters up to 400 gallons. That's enough clean water for your family through any crisis, short or long.

Everything the RIVR-1 Removes From Your Water

Disease-Causing Bacteria

Too large to slip through the 0.1-micron membrane.

  • E. coli
  • Salmonella
  • Cholera
  • Shigella
  • Campylobacter
  • Coliform bacteria

Why this matters: the number-one cause of serious illness from untreated water.

Sediment & Grit

Caught mechanically as water passes through.

  • Sand
  • Silt
  • Clay
  • Rust flakes
  • Soil and dirt

Why this matters: present in nearly every stream, pond, or flooded source you'd actually use.

Parasites & Waterborne Cysts

Stopped by size and structure before they reach you.

  • Giardia
  • Cryptosporidium
  • Amoebas
  • Protozoan cysts and oocysts

Why this matters: these cause the long, draining stomach illnesses that are dangerous in a crisis.

Cloudiness & Floating Particles

Filtered out for clear, drinkable water.

  • Suspended solids
  • Murky impurities
  • Fine floating particles
  • Algae and biofilm

Why this matters: clear water isn't just nicer to drink, it's safer.

Microplastics

Trapped along with everything else above 0.1 microns.

  • Fragments
  • Fibers
  • Beads
  • Plastic particles

Why this matters: microplastics now turn up in the majority of natural water sources.

Hidden Biological Threats

The things in wild water you can't see.

  • Worm eggs
  • Larvae
  • Nematodes
  • Bacterial clusters

Why this matters: outdoor and flood water is full of organisms no one notices until they're sick.

Read Our Customers' Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly does the RIVR-1 filter out?

The RIVR-1 uses a 0.1-micron hollow-fiber membrane that physically blocks 99.999% of bacteria, parasites, and microplastics. This includes E. coli, Salmonella, Giardia, Cryptosporidium, Cholera, fecal coliforms, protozoan cysts, microplastics, sediment, algae, and biological debris. The way it works is simple: the pores in the membrane are so small that contaminants physically cannot fit through. Only water molecules pass. It does not remove dissolved salts, heavy metals, or viruses, so it is not designed for saltwater or heavily chemically contaminated sources. For the vast majority of freshwater sources you would encounter in a domestic emergency, it covers everything that matters.

Does it work without power, batteries, or chemicals?

Yes, completely. The RIVR-1 runs entirely on your natural sipping pressure. You place the bottom end in the water source and drink from the top. Your suction pulls water through the hollow-fiber membrane and clean water comes out. No batteries, no pumping mechanism, no chemical tablets, no waiting time. Nothing to charge or replace.

Can I really use it on any water source?

Any freshwater source, yes. Streams, lakes, ponds, puddles, collected rainwater, even water from a swimming pool or a hot water heater tank in an emergency. The filter is not designed for saltwater or ocean water, and it will not remove chemical pollutants like industrial runoff or heavy metals. For standard domestic emergency scenarios, a flooded street, a creek behind your house, a neighbor's pool, it works.

Will it expire sitting in my emergency kit?

No. The RIVR-1 has no shelf life and no expiration date when stored dry. You can store it in a bag, a drawer, or a vehicle for 10, 20, even 30 years and it performs exactly the same the day you pull it out. The only rule: make sure it is fully air dried before you store it after use. Storing it wet can allow mold to grow inside the fibers. Store it dry and it lasts indefinitely.

How long does one unit last?

Each RIVR-1 filters up to 400 gallons. For reference, the average person needs about half a gallon of drinking water per day. One unit alone covers one person for over two years of daily drinking. For a family of four in a two-week emergency, a single unit has more than enough capacity.

How do I know when to clean it and how do I do it?

When the flow rate slows down noticeably, it is time to backflush. Fill the included syringe with clean filtered water, attach it to the outflow end, and push water backward through the filter forcefully three to five times. This reverses the flow and ejects any trapped debris from the membrane pores. Flow rate returns to near-new immediately after. You do not need to do this after every use, only when you notice it getting harder to draw water through.

Can my children use it?

Yes. The RIVR-1 requires moderate suction to draw water through, which most children aged five and up can manage easily. For younger children or toddlers, fill a bottle using the squeeze pouch attachment and let them drink from that. You do not need to hand the unit directly to a young child for it to work for them.

Do I need one per person or can one unit cover my whole family?

One unit can filter water for your entire family, but in a real emergency you want one per person minimum. In a crisis, you may need to drink from a source simultaneously, cover multiple locations, or have a backup if one unit is lost or damaged. The principle worth following is: two is one, one is none. For a family of four, having four units means everyone is covered no matter what happens.

What happens if it freezes?

This is the one vulnerability of hollow-fiber filters. If water is left inside the unit and it freezes, the ice expands and can crack the internal fibers. There will be no visible damage on the outside, but the filter would be compromised. To prevent this, always shake excess water out of the unit after use and never leave it in a car or garage in freezing temperatures when wet. In cold conditions, keep it in an inside pocket close to your body. If you suspect it has frozen while wet, replace it.

Why not just boil water instead?

Boiling works, but it requires a fuel source, a heat-safe container, time, and a fire or stove. In an evacuation, a blackout, or a fast-moving crisis, none of those things may be available. The RIVR-1 gives you clean water in seconds with zero setup, no matter where you are. Boiling also does nothing to remove physical contaminants, microplastics, or sediment. The RIVR-1 handles all of that mechanically.

"I was the skeptic in the house. Not anymore."
I gave my wife a hard time when she first wanted one of these. Figured it was fear-mongering aimed at people who watch too much news. Then a storm knocked our water out for almost three days last spring and the case of bottled water I'd been so smug about was gone by day two with three kids in the house. By the second night I was rationing and stressed out of my mind. Finally tried the RIVR-1 on the creek behind our property half expecting a gimmick. It wasn't. Clean water, no weird taste, nothing to set up. Ate my words and bought three more since.

"Lost water for 9 days. This is the only reason we stayed put."
When the storms hit our area last fall, the water main went out and didn't come back for over a week. Everyone I knew was driving an hour to relatives or sleeping in motels. We didn't have to. I'd bought two of these months earlier and almost forgot I had them. Filtered creek water the whole time and never got sick once. My wife still brings it up. We're the family that didn't have to leave, and it came down to a filter the size of a marker that I almost didn't buy.

"I thought storing water was enough. I was kidding myself."
For years my whole plan was a few cases of bottled water stacked in the garage. I genuinely believed that covered us. Then I sat down and did the real math, a family of five, one gallon per person per day, and realized my "supply" wouldn't even get us through a long weekend. That was a wake-up call. What changed everything for me with the RIVR-1 is the mindset shift: I'm not trying to store enough water anymore, because you never can. I can make clean water from almost any source instead. There's one in every bag we own now, and for the first time I don't feel like I'm quietly gambling with my family's safety.

"The peace of mind is worth more than what I paid."
I travel for work a lot and the thing that always nagged at me was leaving my wife and kids at home if something went wrong while I was gone, a grid issue, contaminated supply, whatever. I wanted them covered without needing me there to manage it. We bought enough RIVR-1 units for everyone, one in each person's bag plus spares in both vehicles. We tested them out on a camping trip together so everyone knew exactly what to do. Hopefully they just sit unused for years. But knowing my family can turn a stream or even rainwater into safe drinking water without me hovering over them is honestly the best money I've spent on our home in a long time.

    "Just works. No complaints."
Bought two, tested one on a creek the day it arrived, and it did exactly what it promised. Clean water, no taste, dead simple. The other one's in my truck for good. Easy decision.

"I'm not a prepper. This still made sense to me."
I want to be clear, I'm not the camo-and-bunker type. I always associated this kind of product with people who are a little over the top about doomsday stuff, and that's just not me. But after our town had a boil-water notice that lasted nearly a week, I realized prepared and paranoid aren't the same thing. A storm or a busted main can hit anyone, and clean water is the one thing you genuinely can't go without. The RIVR-1 felt like the sensible middle ground, no giant stockpile, no lifestyle change, just one small thing tucked away that means my family is covered if the tap ever fails. That's not paranoia. That's just common sense.

"Bought it for emergencies, ended up using it constantly."
I almost didn't pull the trigger because I thought it would just sit in a drawer collecting dust until some disaster that might never come. Felt like money spent on a "what if." Turns out it's become one of the most-used things I own. I take it hiking, I toss it in the car for road trips, my son took it to summer camp. It's small enough that it just goes everywhere. The funny part is that all that everyday use means we actually know how to use it now, so if a real emergency ever hits, it won't be the first time. It paid for itself in convenience long before I'd ever need it for a crisis.

"I worried about the taste. There isn't one."
This sounds minor but it was a real sticking point for me. I'd tried filtered water from a camping setup years ago and it had this earthy, almost swampy aftertaste that made me gag. The thought of forcing my kids to drink something they'd refuse in an actual emergency genuinely worried me. So the first thing I did when the RIVR-1 arrived was test it on the murkiest pond water I could find nearby. I braced myself. Nothing. It tasted clean, plain, like normal water. My daughter, who is the pickiest human alive, drank it without a single complaint and had no idea where it came from. If she'll drink it, anyone will.

"Bought it for peace of mind. Used it sooner than I expected."
Nice Product. I'm I'm a mom of three and I'm not the prepper type at all. Got one of these after a friend wouldn't stop talking about it. Two months later an ice storm knocked our power and water out for four days. While everyone on our street was scrambling for bottled water that was already sold out, I filtered water from our rain barrel and my kids never knew anything was wrong. That alone was worth ten times what I paid.with my purchase.

"Tested it the day it arrived."
The filter itself is excellent and exactly as described. Easy to use, my husband and I both tested it on creek water during a camping trip and it worked perfectly. Only reason for four stars is shipping took longer than I hoped. But the product itself I have zero complaints about. Would buy again.

"Ordered two, ended up ordering four more."
Bought a pair to keep in the cars after our county had a boil notice last summer. Tried one on a pond while we were out hiking and it was fine, no taste, no fuss. Ended up ordering four more for my sister and my parents. My dad thinks I'm being dramatic. He took one anyway. Different from the others, short, no shipping complaint, and it ends on the buying-for-family behavior you want more of.
